Higher wages at Faber-Castell, Schwan-Stabilo, and Lyra

Collective bargaining agreement in the writing and drawing instruments industry: A one-time payment of 300 euros in December 2026; 150 euros for apprentices. A permanent increase of 75 euros per month starting in July 2027, with an additional 75 euros starting in July 2028; 50 euros more for apprentices in each case. Over 1,000 employees exerted pressure through warning strikes to secure these gains.

Collective Bargaining Enters the Second Round

No progress in the first round of collective bargaining for the metal and electrical industries. IG Metall is demanding a 5 percent pay increase and job security. Employers are rejecting the demands—but have not made any counteroffers. The second round of negotiations begins on October 27.

IG Metall Demands Reversal of Collective Bargaining Terminations at VW

A labor dispute is looming at Volkswagen starting in January. VW management has terminated nearly all of the company’s collective bargaining agreements and is demanding even more money from employees. IG Metall is now calling for the terminations to be rescinded by the end of October—as well as for negotiations to begin promptly.

The Munich-based A+A financial investors strike again

The private equity firms Aequita and Accursia are buying up metal companies and bleeding them dry—now including AIOS (headliners for Mercedes) in Überherrn (Saarland) and the iron foundry in Ueckermünde (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). The workers are fighting back. At AIOS, a strike vote is now on the horizon.

Wage Increase in the Carpentry Trade in Baden-Württemberg

Carpenters in the southwest will receive higher pay: Starting in November, wages will increase by 2.3 percent, followed by a further 2.5 percent a year later. Apprentice wages will increase by 35 euros on each of these dates.
